abstract

background: periodontal subgingival pathogens affect local and systemic immune responses and initiate an acute phase systemic inflammatory response characterized by the release of c-reactive proteins (crps). this study has been carried out to evaluate the serum concentration of crps, which can be used as a marker of periodontal disease as well as a risk indicator for cardiovascular diseases. materials and methods: in a retrospective study a total number of 45 subjects were selected from the outpatient department of periodontics a mean age of 40 years. based on the periodontal status, the subjects were divided into 3 groups of 15 subjects each. group i: control group [with attachment loss (al) ≤ 2 mm and pocket depth (pd) < 3 mm], group ii: generalized aggressive periodontitis (al ≤ 5 mm), group iii: chronic periodontitis (al ≥ 2 mm, pd ≥ 5 mm), which includes moderate and severe periodontitis. the clinical parameters recorded were plaque index, gingival index, bleeding index, probing pd, and clinical attachment levels and scoring was done on 6 surfaces of all teeth. for the crp assessment, blood samples were collected from subjects at the time of clinical examination. analysis of covariance was used for comparison of mean values between the groups to adjust the ages (p value < 0.05). results: overall, the mean crp levels were high in subjects with generalized aggressive and chronic periodontitis compared with controls. this was found to be statistically significant. a statistically significant difference (p = 0.012) was found in the crp level between groups i and ii and between groups ii and iii, and between groups i and iii. conclusion: the results of the present study indicated an increase in serum crp levels in subjects with generalized aggressive periodontitis and chronic periodontitis as compared with the controls. key words: aggressive periodontitis, chronic periodontitis, c-reactive proteins, serum concentration

Comparison of C - reactive protein Levels in Chronic Periodontitis Patients with Normal Subjects

Background: Chronic periodontitis causes systemic inflammation and increases C-reactive protein (CRP). CRP has been implicated as a possible mediator of associating periodontitis and several systemic diseases. The aim of the present study was to investigate systemic levels of CRP in patients with chronic periodontitis in comparison to periodontally healthy individuals.    Materials and methods:...

Evaluation of Serum C-reactive Protein Levels in Subjects with Aggressive and Chronic Periodontitis in Comparison with Healthy Controls: A Clinico-biochemical Study

AIM Evaluation and comparison of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in subjects with chronic and aggressive periodontitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Based on the periodontal status, 45 subjects were selected and divided into three groups. Group I - subjects with clinically healthy periodontium, Group II - generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAP), and Group III - chronic periodontitis (CP). B...

Comparison of serum levels of calcium, vitamin-D, phosphorous and C-reactive protein in acne patients versus healthy subjects

Background: Acne vulgaris is among common bothersome skin problems. Recognition of contributing factors would help to prevent acne. Some dietary and inflammatory factors are among suggested etiologies. Accordingly, in this study, the serum levels of calcium, vitamin D, phosphorous and C-reactive protein (CRP) were determined and compared in acne patients and healthy subjects. ...

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

The Serum C-reactive Protein and Prooxidant-antioxidant Balance in Patients with Esophageal Cancer Compared to Healthy Subjects

Introduction: The molecular mechanisms involved in pathogenesis of esophageal cancer have been the main concern of several studies. In this study, we aimed to investigate the changes of serum prooxidant-antioxidant balance (PAB) value as a redox index, as well as serum C-reactive protein (CRP) compared to healthy control group. Materials and Methods: In a cross-sectional study, blood samples we...
